When I skimmed the sheet I came away with the impression that they were
pulling a fast one - since their chip did 1-clock per instruction, they
were counting clock cycles.  Since the PIC takes 4 clocks per instruction,
they were taking the PIC instruction counts and multiplying by 4.

6 instruction cycles + a couple of bcf/bsf/BANKSELs = 8-10 icycles
10 icycles * 4 clocks = 40 clock cycles.

scum-marketing at its worst.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like an also-ran.  No wonder they
didn't compare to an 18F, it would beat it in most areas I suspect, the MAXQ
doesn't even have a multiply instruction! Couple that with the fact that the
18F is now becoming a mature, established part with a good selection of
development tools and support, and it looks like the MAXQ isn't going to
make much of a splash when it lands unless they include some killer
peripherals (integrated 12 bit ADCs and DACs would be nice).

TI already has the 12 bit ADCs and DACs in the MSP430 family (one of
many reasons I'm using them along with PIC 18F's these days). TI's ADCs
in particular are very good!
