After upgrade a few machines to Win 7, we have found hyper terminal is not available anymore and all serial software we are currently using with xp cannot run at Win 7.

Anyone has a good recommendation on open-source software for serial ports?

We use TeraTerm.

You could do what I did and copy the Hyperterminal exe and dll file from an
XP machine.

Works perfectly on all my Vista and Win7 machines I use for testing.

I use TeraTerm also.  Be sure to get the right version, there are two floating around:

I use this one:

http://ttssh2.sourceforge.jp

Be careful not to get the one from 'Tera Term Home Page', which has not been
updated since 1999, and is unfortunately the first hit on Google:

PuTTY is telnet and ssh capable. Just one executable without installation.

Realterm should work too.

I've copied the XP calculator onto the Win7 machines I use since the fancy
new one doesn't work the way I like it when doing mixed floating-fixed
calculations.
