While gargoyling for some info on isolated fet drive as a follow on from the
discussion the other day, I came across this poster.

Yep, that's pretty neat! The Monterey Bay Aquarium is north of me about
100 miles or so. We go by there every year or so to see what's new. One
thing in the text was:

"cable. One pair of conductors are used to deliver AC
(alternating current) power and another pair to establish
network connectivity via an SDSL (Synchronous Digital
Subscriber Line) connection."

Doesn't SDSL stand for SYMMETRIC digital subscriber line?

Harold

Yes, ADSL is for async SDSL is for sync.

I'm pretty sure Harold is correct.  In telephony, ADSL is Asymmetric
Digital Subscriber Line (sometimes Loop) and SDSL is Symmetric Digital
Subscriber Line (sometimes Loop).

In ADSL, the Asymmetrical just means that the download and upload speeds
aren't necessarily the same.  In SDSL, they are the same (or the path is
symmetrical).

It's about time I put my Newton's Telecom Dictionary to use :)

Now I'm laughing at myself :-) Was thinking too much about ASYNC
communication protocols or just my brain does not work properly I don't know
:-) Probably the similar has happened with the person who wrote that down
:-)
