He makes some good points there.

However, his economic analysis is based on MPPT devices being
significantly more expensive. If you're making your charge controller
yourself, this isn't the case (it's going to be expensive either
way).

And he assumes that you're going to use panels that are matched to
battery voltage, which reduces the available overhead. By using a
lower voltage battery, you have more overhead and it's easier to do
MPPT.

Plus, some of us live in colder places that have short solar days
(like WA in the winter). We need all the help we can get.
