Seems like there are a lot of nicer logic analyzers showing up on Ebay these
days. Used to be all you would see is 1631's. I particularly like the
16500/16555 for the nice capture depth :-).

I just picked up a 1653B on eBay, and want to get rid of my 1631D.
Both of these units have the advantage of including a digital
sampling scope.

I'm hoping the 1653B is somewhat quieter than the 1631D (which has a
noisier fan than I'd like), and the triggering is nicer.

Sadly, the capture depth is pretty crappy still.

Yes, I was looking for a 1650 originally, and then I bid on a 1660 and
almost got it, and then several 16500/16555's showed up at nearly the same
price. Of course you always have to be careful not to buy something that is
non-functional or lacking boards or pods or cables or software. You are
right that having a scope built in is nice, but I had to forego that. I'll
have to see if it has a trigger-out for an external scope. The fan noise is
moderate.

There's actually a nice 16500C on ebay right now

Personally I have an A, but if I could afford a B or a C, I would jump at
the chance (some B models and all C models have a hard drive to boot from,
plus they have faster capture rates capable, and a higher speed scope card.

Here are some of the C models on ebay now...

search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2F
ws%2F&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=16500C&categoryid=&ht=1&category1=4676
&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=&from=R2&catref=C3

The biggest problem is getting a manual - some come with a manual, many
don't - it took me about 5 months of waiting to find a manual on ebay for
the logic analyzer portion - so if at all possible, get one with all
manuals.

Ah, then you don't know about the secret stash of downloadable HP
manuals!

http://ftp.agilent.com/pub/callpub/ddt/16500/

I did point out yesterday to their webmaster that it might be nice to
actually be able to search for these things...

Anyone know of a stash of Tek manuals? I'm looking for one for my Tek
1230 analyzer :)

Thanks,

Josh

Actually, I am very aware of that ftp site (but not the address, read
below) - after long talks with Agilent, I had downloaded every single pdf
file from that area, as well as all of the software.

I didn't mention the ftp site 'cause I no longer had the link to it -
unfortunately, if you do a search on their site for 16500A material, there
is none found - the only reason I found out about it was from the phone call
I had made (I wanted to get another set of system disks, and learn how to
deal with their messed up file format)

Actually, I do have a question if you came across it...

did you notice any tech / repair manuals for a 54112D scope?

I had looked thru the ftp site a while back, and again tonight - only
manuals I came across were ones for the 54111D, and they were only the
operator manuals.

my 54112D I had gotten last year is not fully functional, and I'd like to
restore it if possible, (or at least narrow it down to the faulty card) -
and agilent want's $150 to just look at the darn thing and they said they
don't have parts for a lot of these older discontinued scopes.

Manual? Who reads the manual? Now I do agree that the service manual is nice
to have.
