Here's a cheaper source of Luxeons - and in New Zealand.
$NZ1 ~= $US0.70.
Fewer other LEDS. They are multisport oriented.
Their retail Luxeon prices are about the same as I get them wholesale
here - and they may have stock of ones I've been waiting 1+ months
for. And they have the Luxeon emitter which isn't available from my
supplier. Too late ...
http://www.nightlightning.co.nz/luxeon%20details.htm
Here is a very nice Luxeon based torch they make using multiple 3 watt
modules (!)
AVR ATtiny26 processor with ISP for code upgrades - some torch.
http://www.nightlightning.co.nz/multisporters.htm
They also sell dimmer modules, mains and battery power supplies,
optics and more.

Not for Luxeons :-(
They say
We are currently no longer offering Lumileds products for an
undisclosed period of time, could be forever. Why? It's
complicated--it's a decision we ourselves have had a hard time
accepting but for now our hands are tied.
Anyone have any well priced Luxeon sources who are happy to supply
smallish volumes ?

It looks like Future Electronics ("The exclusive distributer...") will
sell small quantities of at least SOME of the luxeons. Haven't tried
it, though...
And there's usually someone making beer money reselling them at good
prices on candle power forums (http://www.candlepowerforums.com)

Speaking of LED suppliers.. Has anyone managed to order LEDs from Nichia
Europe? I've tried and gave up when I found out that the webstore was in
German (and that the USA webstore won't sell outside of the USA).
I'm after NSPW500BS type white 5mm LEDs, and I'm in the UK (as if the .uk
email address doesn't give that away).
Later.

The best I have found in the US is LSDiodes.com; I do not claim this to
be the result of an exhaustive search, however.
Searching around did turn up this company:
http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=led.power
Their prices start out around 1/2 the price of LSDiodes.com and go down
fast with quantity, assuming:
a) they are a real company
b) their parts are equivalent to those from LSDiodes.com
c) you order enough quantity to overcome the shipping costs to you from
China
For example, RGB leds in 4-lead pkg, $1.10US from LSDiodes.com,
about $.54US, qty 2 from the Chinese company. Minimum freight cost
seems to be (to US) $34/.5kg, $41/1kg and up. Or about $300 for a
seacargo container that can hold around $10,000 of leds...

I forgot to mention that I don't need the high brightness exotic ones :-)
I just need 100 for my stock.
LSDiodes - Don't have diffused and / or cheap LEDs
http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn - Their TNT shipping charges are about $35 for
small quantities or maybe I'm misinterpreting their shipping charges.
ebay - I'll go through the long list of auctions.

There are the normal suspects. I bought a full reel (1000?) of red 3mm
LEDs for about $20 from Electronics Goldmine a couple years back when
they
were "on sale" or something. They have a similar offer now (only for
"4mm"
LEDs, according to their copy.)
most of the regular eBay sellers seem to be selling ultrabrights.

Thanks Bill,
Good deal! Maybe those are rejects from the manufacturer as there are
no orientation marks on the LEDs :-))
I'll order one spool plus some other goodies :-)

I've had pretty good luck buying standard size LED's from http://www.cir.com.
They sell 100 for $1.50.

There usually isn't on spools. The orientation is the same for the
entire spool (I hope).

At least circuit specialists give some indication of brightness.
Anybody have an idea on the specs of the goldmine reel?
I have had some surplus leds (elsewhere) that were almost unusably dim.

I'm looking to place an order for a large (for a hobby project) number
of LEDs and this is the place I'm most strongly considering. This
companies' product is reviewed on Don Klipstein's Lighting Info Site,
so they do seem to be a real company. Product seems to be on par with
price, but for my needs that is quite sufficient. Still and all, I'd
really like to hear from someone who has dealt with them before
shelling out $500 to a Chinese company...

Please let the list know how it works out if you go ahead and place your

These guys (http://www.excesssolutions.com) don't know what they are doing!
they have mis-marked parts all over. They charged my card for blinking
LEDs but gave me standard ones :-( Fortunately I checked the LEDs
before I took them home. Each time (twice) I went to their store had
to bang my head on one of the store walls for an hour!!
Not at all recommended!

You're doing it wrong. If you want to get out quicker you need to bang
*their* heads on the store wall. One way or the other you're unlikely
to have the problem there ever again. :-)
(Don't try this at home) or anywhere else))

Well, the store has 4 walls so does it mean I would have to go there
two more times? :-)

Point well noted :-)

sorry for this *very* late reply. I've already made three orders
from them.
Very kind people, great price, very good products.
