A 200lb bicycle I'd be scared (and probably a little embarrassed)
to be in traffic on

And hills ? Forget about it

"and his understanding as a mechanic in helping him remedy the bicycles'
many shortcomings."
...and is that duct tape I see holding the tyres to the rims? Looks like
he's advanced (retreated?) to cable ties in the other shot. I guess that's
how he remedies the shortcomings.
At least he isn't going sideways.

Oh Good Grief!
I like: "Second only to swimming" - is that in the list of "Transport methods you would never consider using to get to work"? :-)

A number of these would be preferable in many respects
http://public.fotki.com/russellmc/atw/bikes/
These are some of the "bikes" I saw in various countries in 2003.
Most here are actually tricycles, as his one is.
1. PICT0185 in San Diego (while visiting the aerospace museum with
James) looks very practical.
2.3.9.13 Are Berlin tricycle taxis - also LOOK somewhat practical.
4 and the sequence 14-25 is a nice recumbent trike I saw in Holland -
riddent by an Englishman who had a stroke and could ride this but not
a bike proper. Nicely made.
Steering of 1. is with side levers wheras 14. ... uses a central
"tiller".

"No need for a seat"
I'm glad they got rid of the one thing that I really hate in my personal
transportation devices. The ability to relax once in a while!

A tight fitting wetsuit on an attractive young girl is essential to distract you from the eyesore she is mounted within!

Would not like to be going as fast as a car on it (in it ?). Unless
you're trying to get from one end of a runway to the other. And
back again
A Fast Lap mission for Top Gear ?
I say take the wheels off and just turn it into another abs cruncher

Or indeed any of the ones in
http://www.wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/whpsc2001/resultsSaturday.htm
Not sure where he gets the idea that thing will do 50mph from - certainly
not through any testing. By 25mph on a conventional bike the vast majority
of your power is going to overcome aero drag, a point he seems to have
missed, given that the aero drag on that will be a huge amount higher than
on a conventional bike, so I suggest it will be tough to crack 20mph with
that.
I'm guessing that the wetsuit is because there is a lake in the background
of those shots, and the thing is so uncontrollable that the pilot is worried
about going in!

It's not clear whether they think they're selling
TRANSPORTATION or EXERCISE EQUIPMENT. It seems to
me that there are different ... requirements in each
area. (For instance, it certainly doesn't look very
well designed for coexistence with automobiles...)
It's probably not a wetsuit; just one of those "wet
look" workout suits. You'd be surprised at the
variety of spandex available...

Ya know, I wouldn't want to get to be known as the guru of spandex on the
list... if you know what I mean... ;)

With those big wheels, you could simply go over the top of most cars. I
wonder how far it'll lean before it falls over?
And as far as the spandex goes, well, we all need a hobby.
