'[EE] Eye-Fi SD flash + automatic WiFi'

Someone finally came out with something I've been wanting for some time.

http://www.eye.fi/

It's a 2GB SD card with built in WiFi.  Once configured for your
wireless network, when powered it'll upload photos from the flash to
your computer (and then onto photo sharing services if desired).

All automagically.

The ideal, for me, is to have it use bluetooth to talk to my phone and
upload them anywhere, regardless of wifi access...  but maybe later.

The device itself looks pretty cool on the inside.  If these links
don't work, look up "VHE" on the FCC exhibits page:

Very cool....wonder if it will really take off?  $99 rather than just stick the SD card into the reader on the PC?  I think I'd just remove it and put it in the machine.  Besides, I fill up several gig cards when I go on shoots.

It does seem pretty cool but I think you will see most cameras soon
having WiFi built in. Sure you don't have to plug your camera in to
upload the pictures. But you still have to turn it on, then turn it off
when it's done uploading. And how often would you take a bunch of
pictures within range of your WiFi network?
I'm sure it has it's place, and I almost bought it, but then I realized
that it's not worth it for me.

Now if it also had an ARM9 processor and 32 meg of ram
and ran linux, that'd be cool. Then the camera would
be an accessory to it rather than the other way around
:)

Cheers,
Bob

I would envisage such functionality being more of an instantaneous
duplicator of shots taken to something in your pocket, in case of camera
theft or some such.

I like the idea if it was possible to wifi log in and manage files on the
medium.
Then any camera just by adding a timer or remote control to the take picture
button could become a candidate to take high resolution 'accelerated time
photography'
