'[EE] Eagle question on ground planes'

Hi,

I am building a motor control board and am using a SMD chip
that needs a copper pour underneath to dissipate heat.

I but a retrict on the trestrict and brestrict layers, then
I auto routed the board. Which worked fine no traces went
under my chip.

I then deleted the tresrict and brestrict and put a polgon
unber the chip on the top and bottom layers. I then auto
routed again and the polgon gets filled with copper.
However, when I save and then reopen the project the outline
of the polygon is there but not the copper pour as far as I
can tell.

Is it there and I am just not seeing it displayed now, or am
I doing something wrong ?

Thanks,
Kevin

I recall I had this once. The copper was there, but it just did not
show. Try redraw, or ratsnest? Try creating gerbers, is the copper present?

That worked.

Hi Wouter,

I created the gerbers and used ViewPlot to view them. They
were there. I then checked my email and saw Olin's response.
Olin's commands made them visible on the board.

Set POLY ON
RAT

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I'm glad you didn't find Olin's response offensive. If someone called
me a rat, I'd be pretty mad! ;)

Based on your description of the problem, the SET POLY ON command isn't
necessary, and you can just hit the "ratsnest" button to fill in the ground
plane.

Eagle is, unfortunately, not the most intuitive program.
