Hi all,

I am looking for a lcd display that has 2 lines of 80 chars each. I have tried the places i usually order from, but there doesnt seem to be any of them that carry such a product. Has any of you pointers to such a product? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Søren Knudsen

you may be better off trying to work with a LCD graffics display. check out
FTP directory /pub/compsys at ftp.compsys1.com

Use a 40 x 4 module, or (much more difficult) use a 480 x (for example) 320
or larger
graphic  LCD module and add the controller using whichever font will fit and
you think has an acceptable appearance.

None of the LCD catalogues I have (GPO, Mutron, Varitronix,
Optrex etc) show anything bigger than 40x4. Not even 64-wide,
which is the single-line addressing range for many controllers. I
imagine the demand for 80x2 would be very low. If such a thing
doesn't exist you might be able to get them made, if whoever you
ask has the engineering facilities to do it. Would be very expensive
and you'd probably have to order a lot

You might have to settle for two 40x2 side-by-side. I have a very
small (68mmx7.5mm) 20x1 display that has hardly any frame at all,
a little less than 1mm compared to the usual 5mm metal + 5mm PCB.
If I had more they could be butted together to make a long display -
although there would be a small gap every 20 characters. That could
be something to investigate though. Instead of a bigger display, ask
about displays that can be stacked

Sorry, there's no manufacturer name. Best I can do is give you a
picture of it (apologies for the pink - camcorders indoors at night
eh ?) and all details that might be useful. Would really like to know
who made it myself. Guessing it's a custom job. I saw it working in
the damaged small radio or scanner it came out of before the radio/
scanner was stripped for parts

Connector is a miniature 14-way, 1.27mm pitch

Glass is mounted on the PCB at a 45deg angle, supported by end
pieces, and connected by a 12-way strip of pins in the middle of the
edge touching the PCB. The back of it is tinplate, edges are adhesive
metal foil

Visible semis (all SMT) are a 74HC14 + 74HC86 pair at each end
and a 74HC32 on the right, next to the small switch. Possibly there
are driver chips inside the glass but they would be very small. Difficult
to tell without a fatal dismantling

PCB is 3-layer, with a ground plane for middle layer

On PCB is 9333 date code, 94-V0, PV-LSP REV:D, QEC-4V0, and
a small sticker with *3001*

Hi,

Thank you all for the informing replies. I think I that I have decided to use 2, 2x40 displays with the one of them being upside down to get them closer by eacg other.
