'[EE] Eagle slot pad'

I am trying to create a pad with a rectangular through-hole slot in it.
In the past, I have hacked these by placing a regular, round pad in Eagle, then adding rectangles on the milling, pads, top and bottom copper layers to represent the real area of the pad. This always generates DRC errors, and a "WHA??!?!?? YOU BEEN SMOKIN' SOMEHTIN???!??" from the board house. So far, no better ideas from the PIClist archives.
Is there any elegant way to accomplish this?

No built in facility in Eagle. The usual answer to this question in the
Cadsoft forum is to call your board house. Then agree on how to specify the
cut-out using the dimention layer or one of the documentation layers.
