Use a controled rectifier! Two diodes and two thyristors or if three
phase 6 thyristors ! Control the phase angle and you have a variable dc
voltage !( a dimmer for DC)

Now, that's ingenious! Using the parts of the power cycle
that the other power supplies throw away! This could
be the solution to the "power factor crisis" supposedly
being caused by all the personal computers and other
electronic devices with switching supplies.
I can buy "power factor corrected" supplies. You think
they do something like this?
