OK, please don't totaly bombard me with 1000's of answers.

I need some leads for lov volume, low cost, quick turn prototypes.

All my boards are only 2 sided and are very far from dense or complicated.

Thanks,

Shawn

I have to second these guys. I've had them do a number of quick turn
prototypes, and have never had a problem. I've had stuff down to 8 mil
pad-pad made by them without any problems. Cheap (stick to their 'free drill
sizes' though) and fast.

Ok, this is fine for the USA (state side) BUT what are the best options
for us in Australia (OZ). Any suggestions. Low quantities, primarily
prototype work.

I just sent my first "real" board to them this morning.. double sided,
solder mask, gold plated edge connector.. should be about 5 Days.. I'll let
you know how it goes. They work by "Panels" and have two sizes. The will
repeat the board on the panel. If you want to get more then one board made
you have to place them all in the one file and they will repeat that.

Also If you don't need plate through or solder masks, "Parkyn Electronic
Services" (in Brisbane as well) will mill a board for you. I got a double
sided one done there, 12mil/12mil is about the limit. Quite nice result and
reasonable price.

Cheers,
Ash.

We use Fastrack all the time. (Brisbane) I just send them the
files and tell them how many I need of each. They then work
out how many panels to do. They are done as "prototype' runs.
Cost is AU$400 (d/s, pth, overlay & solder masks) for the first
one and AU$50 per panel thereafter. If over 2-3 panels, they will
do them as production runs. (different rates) Let me know if you
need contact details for them.

We have used BEC also and do recommend them.

If you want more layers, Entech in SA provides very professional, efficient

Sorry, can't recall offhand - maybe 14" x 16" - only guessing.

I had them make one set of 8 (very easy) boards and one of them was faulty
(a copper blob that shorted a couple of traces). Luckily I only actually
needed 7of the boards, and the refunded me the cost of the last set of 2.

I have used apcircuits.com for many different 2 layer proto designs,
and have had only a couple of instances of copper blobs/etc. They
do charge ~1 cent/hit for hole densities beyond 24 holes/sq.in.,
and unfortunately most of my pcbs go about 50 holes/sq.in. Otherwise,
a pretty good deal and very fast turn around.

Rich Ottosen recommended Advanced Circuits, http://www.4pcb.com, here in
Colorado to me, but I haven't tried them yet.

Are there any PCB manufacturers that will do cheaper in return for "slower"?
(Still at very-low volumes.)  I'm getting old and slow, so it's no big deal
if turnaround is between one to two weeks instead of 2-3 days, but I'd like
to pay less...

I've also used Advanced Circuits. They've always given me good
boards, on time. If I need soldermask or silkscreen, I use them. They charge
considerably more than APC, but that's because APC has no soldermask and no
silkscreen. For prototypes, one-offs, and personal stuff, I use APC.  For
limited runs, I use Advanced Circuits. It all depends on what you need.

Thanks for all the input.  Sounds like I will give APC a shot.  I had
already looked at them as the result of a web search.

What a great resource this list can be.
