'[EE]: composite video multiplexer with an extra'

Hi!
I'm at component identification phase without satisfactory success so far
for an IC that could multiplex from at least 3 video composite sources,
without noticeable loss of quality, and that (even better) could either
tell my microcontroller which of its inputs are active (i.e. video signal
is valid) or automatically switch back (following a priority, e.g. channel
0 has the highest priority) to the lower priority channel in case the video
signal on the selected input is absent.

In short what I want to do is to freely switch at least 3 input video sources,
but since I will be recording without any visual feedback of what's being
recorded, and the sources could fail, then I want to make sure that I am
recording something anyway (so I thought that another possible way could be
to check just the output of the multiplexer for "video good" signal, and act
on the multiplexer accordingly).

If no chip exists can can do that, could you please at least suggest a good
composite video multiplexer (possibly from TI catalog)?

Thanks a lot,
Mario

What type video are you switching - Composite, Component, DVI ? Google
for crosspoint switches. I have a similar problem, with either Component
or DVI. 4 inputs and 4 outputs. Have been looking for a way to use cat-5
cable, or something inexpensive. Main stumbling block has  been matching
impedance of items. Typical cable length would be under 50 feet. I was
going to start a thread on sublect in near future, trying to clear the
deck first. :)

It's even in the subject line.. "composite" ;)

Here it will be 2.5 feet only.

And you haven't seen the mess of my desk. :D

Which doesn't matter when reading the body, as has been said here many
times, including just a few days ago.

What do you want Olin?? It was written ALSO in the body many times.

You've a lot of time to waste to bother other people, and you often
waste great opportunities to just be silent: get a dog and torture it,
do not bother other people here! And expecially do not act like a
moderator when it's a kid of miracle that you aren't banned forever.

Well, as others have said, he did say composite, and IIRC it is in the body
of the message as well.

I am fairly sure the site to search, for both of you, is Maxim. They seem to
have a number of video switches, multiplexors, and video line drivers
designed for the likes of Cat-5.

Fine then, but your statement made it look like it was only in the subject
line.

You seem to have forgotten you are the one that came here asking for a
favor.

I DID NOT ASK IT TO YOU, AND YOU MADE ME NO FAVOR, YOU JUST DESTROY THE
SIGNAL TO NOISE QUALITIES OF THIS FORUM, EVEN IF INCIDENTALLY SOMETIMES
SOMEONE MAY THINK YOU SAY SOMETHING USEFUL. IT'S JUST NOT WORTH.

GOODBYE NOW, DO NOT MAKE ME ANY FAVOR ANYMORE PLEASE. I NEED THEM LIKE
I NEED A DEAD BIRD.

Actually you did, by posting your question to the list.

Hi, Electron,

no need to shout. I'm watching Olins behaviour since long, it appears as if
he's very frustrated somewhat and he tries to compensate this by regulating
other people.
Simply ignore him or enter a small note into your next message: "Any help
except from Olin greatly appreciated."
I don't think that this will change Olin in any way, but it may help YOU
from getting frustrated too.

Peter

Or use reasonable email practises so there is no need for discussion.

And  "reasonable" is defined by nobody but you?

Offlist.

Hi Jinx,

Actually I did already. You might have noticed that the thread was dead
before you chose to comment.

Publicly asking for an admin is not generally helpful. If you think
something really needs attention, send me an email directly. I'm the
only active admin these days.

Thanks, Bob

Why don't you see your specialist?

A lot of people would be instantly banned by behaving like you do, yet
the fact that you're a VERY privileged and you are allowed to do things
nobody else would be allowed to do (BUT WHY I ASK?) doesn't stimulate
you to show some gratitude, and you keep making a fool of yourself in
public, every single day, and to waste others' time. You want to teach
rules to others, but don't even bother to read the message you're
crucifixing and noticing that indeed the word "composite" was written
many time in the body, not only in the subject. You're very ridicolous!
And you're an unjustly privileged poster.

Will you ever understand this?

It's a hopeless case I'm afraid..

But you just entered my killfile. No, you're not worth entering my
signature, not that one too.

G'bye kid.

That has been tried in the past, didn't work. He is the fountain of knowledge
