Russel, I too was quite interested in the artificial retina chips and I had downloaded the datasheet for the Mitsubishi M64283FP. But I could not get this sensor anywhere in my country (India). Mr Bala Chandar, another PicList member from India had also searched for these sensors, but could not find em. Could you please tell me about the availability of this chip and its approximate cost ? The only source that I am personally aware of is in a plug in camera card for the "Nintendo Gameboy" pocket games. These cards normally costs around $US60 equivalent here I believe but are cheaper on special occasionally. The card and gameboy combination provides a complete video camera and image capture system - VERY limited capability. Hello! If you are looking for the "M64282FP" chip, you are able to find that in the Gameboy Camera. Availability is very poor, however, with ebay probably your best chance: search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&Sort Property=MetaEndSort&query=gameboy+camera I purchased one recently for $20 in Canadian funds (Approx $1.60 CND per $US) from a nearby video game store. It was used. If you want to remove the chip from the unit, be forewarned - The screws holding everything together are quite strange! You will need a special Y-shaped screwedriver with a very small dimension, as the screws are of the 'security' or 'tamper-proof' type. These features run in parallel with the image acquisition, so you are able to get up to ~ 30fps I believe. I wrote some PIC code (in cc5x 'C') to send the appropriate control signals, and to excite the analog response signals if you are interested in that. The only thing is, since it's on the PIC and since the camera wants to run at 500khz I had to change some of the registers because I'm only clocking the thing at approx. 200khz running my 13 MHz PIC16F876. I'm not sure about the differences with the M64282FP and the M64283FP, but I think the one you mentioned may be a 32x32? and this one is 128x128. Well, I hope that helps.
