'[EE]: Quick semi-professional-looking web site gen'

Hi all,

I have to throw together a simple (about 4 pages) web site which looks
decent, by tomorrow.

I am hoping not to spend any money (I already have hosting space).

The problem is that I do not know HTML well enough to make something
which looks good.

Does anyone know a simple free or shareware HTML generation program or
web site which works well?

Basically all I need is a web page with some images and a menu
interface to access the other pages.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Sean

Nvu is nice.  Based on Mozilla.

NVu has evolved into KompoZer.  The KompoZer home page is here:
http://www.kompozer.net/

You can also look into the Mozilla editors.  I think the smallest
package that contains a web page editor is SeaMonkey.  The SeaMonkey
homepage is here:
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Quanta is my favorite, but it requires KDE (and probably Linux).  It's
part of the KDE webdev package.  The Quanta homepage is here:
http://quanta.kdewebdev.org/

Personally, I bailed on all of that and went with a Content Management
system (Joomla for example). The upside is that there are already
templates out there that don't require a whole lot of modification.

BIG downside is that it depends on CSS. But you can wade through it (I
did) with Firefox and Firebug. The results can be pretty decent - and
I am no expert at CSS (pretty much the opposite).

Good luck!

You can try Google's free web page creator at http://pages.google.com/

I think the easiest and the cheapest way.

Yahoo offers  web hosting. They have a free do-it-yourself program that
generates awesome webpages.
It took me just overnight to get a decent website going. Look at
http://www.platinumtechnical.com .

There's always the 'failsafe' of using OpenOffice and saving your
document as a web page...

Hi Sean, when in such needs, I often (say 5 times) used the
online-page-generators from Yahoo or other free-hosting sites, and then
copied the code to my disk and possibly to another server.

It may not be legal, but it works and is a good and fast way to be up
and running.
Then you can play with the site and modify it.

Does it generate pages you can take and put elsewhere, or do you need to pay
for a site with them?

You can probably simply download the tool and put it anywhere.

Most  of the time I was confused with Captain Kangaroo.
I always had a problem with little girls leaving their moms in a store
and finding me
just to chat about the "show".

But I always liked Scotty, too...

Nice catch :) How did you do that? Facebook has a tiny application that
shows face resemblance with celebrities. Probably you haven't use it eh?

As I wrote (but not arrived yet)
you can use them, though maybe you won't be using them "legally".

NVU is fast to learn, Word is fast, so is Open Office.
Joomla has a definite learning curve.

You could try a template and "mess" with it..

Thanks to all who responded. I ended up using Kompozer/NVU. A little
buggy but it got the job done fast.

Sean,

There are KompoZer tutorials at the KompoZer by Example website:
http://kbe.wysifa.net/

There's also an active user forum at:
