http://www.conrad.nl but they are a bit slow in catching up with the newest
PICs, but I sell those at http://www.voti.nl/shop (I can't wait until the EC
forces the banks to ease euro-zone cross-country payments)

>> Try http://www.conrad.de. They have the PIC18F452-I/P for 16,40 EURO.

Conrad.nl doesn't seem to have alot of PICs (no 18Fs, no 16F877, ...) I
haven't seen the 18F ones on your site yet Wouter, else I wouldn't be
looking for an online store that sells them :) I guess 13.21 would be decent
then... maybe I should try to use an other pic for my project... something
cheaper...

I thought that too when looking through the list, but they are there. It is
because of the way he describes them without the 16F or 18F, just the last 3
numbers if the PIC part number. gets a bit confusing Wouter.
Don't forget that although things cost more, there is a hefty tax on top of
the price, which brings it up to these sort of levels.
Germany has 16% Mwst (VAT)
UK has 17.5% VAT
NL has 19% VAT
USA has how much sales tax?? IIRC something of the order of 1/3 of these.
Look at what the tax is in NL that Wouter has to add (to ship to anywhere
inside the EU), but his prices still look reasonable.

Wow. I'm... speechless.

It varies by location, since there is no national sales tax. In my little
corner of the country it's 6.5%, I've seen much lower and as high as 8-9%,
there may be places where it's even higher. One typically doesn't pay
sales tax when buying from an out of state or foreign supplier (for
example when I order from Digi-Key), though this is a matter of some
debate depending on where you are. There are taxes on gasoline, tobacco,
alcohol, etc. but I suspect they're probably also nowhere near as high as
Europe and some other areas.
Wow. 16 to 19%, huh? That really, really sucks. My condolences.
In the USA there is no federal sales tax. Each state sets its own sales tax
rates and policies. I'm in Massachusetts where sales tax is 5% with food and
clothing exempt from all tax.
Businesses only have to collect sales tax for the state in which they are
located and only from residents of that state. So, when I order from
Digi-Key (Minnesota) they do not charge any sales tax. However Massachusetts
law says I'm supposed to tell the state about the purchase and send 5% to
the state, guess how often people do that :-).

Canada is 7% (Alberta) to 14.5% (where I am) and higher. The federal sales
tax is 7%. The provincial sales tax in BC is 7.5%

Hmm... afaik we have 21% (6% for some things though)
What is your income tax like ?
I pay about 30% (income) tax here in the US when I lump in Social security tax and Medicare tax
Stuff that is included under income tax in NZ. (Sales tax 12.5% and income tax 21 %) -----Original Message-----

Try Ireland @21% ( and it might yet go higher if economies don't pick up!)

Well here in Ontario, Canada we pay 7% GST (federal sales tax) and 8% PST
(provicial sales tax) which comes out to 15% total. Much of Canada is
similar (except for Alberta which doesn't have PST, AFAIK). TTYL
