Hello all,

I was wondering how i can put info on my television
screen, just like VCR do when they are connected with
a scart.

I am building a Multichannel surround pre-amp and i am
considering this way of giving information instead of
an LCD.

grtz

Simon

The STV5730 family (SGS Thomson) is popular. Some list
members have used it and should be able to help. Try a
Google search, quite a lot of material out there for it

There are video overlay boards that do this. I have one that was
pre-assembled and comes on a board that looks like a SIMM memory board and
plugs into a SIMM connector. It seems to work pretty well. Cost is about
$70. http://www.decade-net.com

Then that would mean that in order to use this information, the TV has to
be on? That would be an annoyance for audio-only uses.

Is the cost of an LCD panel prohibitive or are there some other
considerations?  LCD panels and their backlights can be turned off so it's
not annoying when the room is dark & nothing's changing on the settings.
