I think that the correct tag for this is [AD] AND that anyone can
subscribe themselves if they want to. I don't want to. James ?

I've mentioned this before, and those who responded were of the opinion that if
it had some tenuous correlation to PICs, then it was fine.  The only news that
ever seems remotely appropiate for this list is usually about their 8051
variants.

In the last 5 months I only recall Russell posting Phillip's product news to the
list maybe 2 times, so it's only a minor annoyance.  If James has his way and
implements an AVR tag, and perhaps others, then these product emails will most
likely go in the [8051] tag, rather than the EE.

Had I my druthers, he would cut and paste only those items which are of direct
interest to the piclist, and if anything applies to current threads then reply
to each thread with the snippet that applies.  I would also be wealthy with a
very nice electronics workshop.

http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic:
"[PIC]:" PIC only "[EE]:" engineering "[OT]:" off topic "[AD]:" ad's

Information about turning on or off topic channels is at
http://www.piclist.com#topics
and is very, very easy. Just click on a mailto link and press send.

Russell is attempting to provide us a service in keeping piclisters abreast
of interesting NEWS items from the EE world. He has asked the admins if we
thought that was a good idea and we said yes. He is not TRYING to advertise
for Phillips.

On the other hand, I will admit that quite often it would be as easy to view
these newsletters from manufacturers as ad hype as it would be to view them
as actual news. Perhaps there is some value in knowing what a mfgr is hyping
at the moment.

I'd be very curious to know what other people feel about receiving one copy
of all the related mfgrs newsletters via the [EE]: channel on the PICList or
if they want to do that separately or if they want a separate channel? Let
me know.

jamesnewtonspamspam_OUTpiclist.com?subject=NEWS_on_EE_channel> @spam@jamesnewtonKILLspamspampiclist.com?subject=NEWS_on_AD_channel> KILLspamjamesnewtonKILLspamspampiclist.com?subject=NEWS_on_NEW_channel> RemoveMEjamesnewtonTakeThisOuTspampiclist.com?subject=NEWS_not_on_PICLIST

As the piclist.com server is very overloaded (new server soon!) I'll post
the topic/channel FAQ part here. Note that the [SX]:, [AVR]: and [BUY]:
channel topics are not yet active, but will be very soon.

<BLOCKQUOTE>
You can now turn on or off any of the topic channels by sending SET PICLIST
TOPICS: followed by a plus or minus sign and the topic tag (without the
colon) to spamBeGoneLISTSERVspamBeGonespamMITVMA.MIT.EDU.

If you don't want advertisements, click on:
TakeThisOuTLISTSERVEraseMEspamspam_OUTMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-%5BAD%5D> or if you do:
RemoveMELISTSERVspamTakeThisOuTMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20+%5BAD%5D

If you don't want posts that are not about PICs or at least electrical
engineering, turn off the [OT]: channel by clicking on:
LISTSERVEraseMEspam.....MITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-%5BOT%5D> when you get board try:
EraseMELISTSERVspamMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20+%5BOT%5D

For no general engineering (but still PIC engineering) posts use:
RemoveMELISTSERVEraseMEspamEraseMEMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-%5BEE%5D> or turn [EE]: back on with
RemoveMELISTSERVspam_OUTspamKILLspamMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20+%5BEE%5D

If you don't care to hear about the Atmel AVR processors, click on:
RemoveMELISTSERVTakeThisOuTspamspamMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-%5BAVR%5D> or if you do:
EraseMELISTSERVspamspamspamBeGoneMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20+%5BAVR%5D

If you don't care to hear about the Scenix SX processors, click on:
RemoveMELISTSERVKILLspamspamMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-%5BSX%5D> or if you do:
LISTSERVSTOPspamspamspam_OUTMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20+%5BSX%5D

One special channel that should be mentioned is the Other: channel. This is
were posts that don't have the correct topic tags are sent. If you are
seeing untagged post, you have the Other: channel enabled. You can turn off
the Other: channel by sending SET PICLIST TOPICS: -Other to
spamBeGoneLISTSERVSTOPspamspamEraseMEMITVMA.MIT.EDU
KILLspamLISTSERVspamBeGonespamMITVMA.MIT.EDU?body=SET%20PICLIST%20TOPICS:%20-other

We have included the brackets in most topic tags so that people can
subscribe to both [PIC]: and [OT]: and then filter the [OT]:'s into another
folder for later (low priority) reading... or other such stuff like that.
