This is new to me. Lots of circuits and ideas.

LOL! That is scary. I love the type of precautions they recommend (like
keeping "test" film around the room and developing it to find the leakage
pattern of the device so you know where to add additional shielding, and
how you must always wear a lead apron while using it!).

It seems new also for me. Some very nice Micro-related projects and a lot of
useful links....
Thanks for the suggestion.

Marco

What they do not say is that you can go around without the lead apron for
weeks with their generator. You see the Oudin coil has 35W primary power
and the efficiency of X-ray conversion is somewhere at the 0.01% level or
less. You can't put any more power into it as is either, as the glass will
crack due to local heating. A dental X-ray machine has about 200W input
power, much higher efficiency than any Oudin coil, and the latest X-ray
tube and it requires 1 second of exposure. On this scale their machine is
at least 15 times less powerful.

The precautions they mention are valid for anybody who works with
continuous X-ray machines, like the old fluorescent screen machines. I
know because I had 2 ex-radiologist MD's in my family. One died of cancer
at a fairly advanced age the other had it and survived it and is still
okay. Both had cancer in body parts that were not properly covered by the
lead apron (upper torso and above).
