Is there currently any kind of product in the market that cost lets say
USD 50.00? The Zilog Encore is down right cheap to own... Hehehehe.
Well, the z8encore board is $49, but that's not a direct competitor to the
dragonball - its more like one of the HC908 series. The EZ80 "aclaim"
series, which IS more of a dragonball competitor, has a significantly more
expensive development system (it still comes with lots of stuff, like an
ethernet switch, that they probably should have left out.)
For a cheap dragonball development system, I'd get a Palm III of some kind,
with the gcc/palmos development environment, for less than $100...
