'[EE]: Digikey in the UK?'

Hi,
I'm considering putting in an order with Digikey, and I was wondering if
any UK PICLISTers who have done so previously could answer a few quick
questions for me...
 1) Who do Digikey use for shipping to the UK? UPS?
 2) Were you charged any VAT or handling fees (eg. customs brokerage) by the
shipping company when the order was delivered?
 3) How much did these fees amount to?

I know about the £10 handling fee and £12 shipping (and the fact that they're
waived for orders over £100). What I'm more interested in are fees that HM
Customs & Excise and (insert name of shipping co here) might want.

Thanks.

I've used them a couple of times - as long as you order  via the uk.digikey.com site (which shows
prices in GBP), you only have to pay the 17.5% VAT to the delivery guy (I think they can do cards) -
no extra brokerage charges as these are prepaid.

Note that (at least as of about 6 months ago) this is NOT the case if you order via the normal
digikey US site & select UK delivery - a customer of mine got caught out for a hefty delivery charge
plus brokerage fees.
.
Delivery is VERY fast - comes via UPS, typically 2-3 days.

Phil,

I have only bought from them before they had a UK presence (in whatever form that is) so I can't help, but I
would reinforce what Mike said - don't buy from their US site even if you can switch to GBP prices - they used
Global Express which ends up here as Parcelforce 24-hour service, which at the time had a GBP13.50 fee on it
to collect the VAT (it may have gone up since then!).  The total cost was more than twice the price of the
goods, itself inflated by their exchange rate, although they did refund the shipping element when I moaned
about it (some of that on here!).

Cheers,
