Look at Xicor. They have RTC-only as well as EEROM versions as well as RTC.
Work very well.

How about the;
M41T00
I2C, no battery diodes, Y2K, software clock correction, calibration output
In SA, about R6 (~ 1 USD)

Hi,
I recommend RS5C313 or RS5C372 from Ricoh. The latter is an I2C one, the
former is a 3-Wire bus. Costs $1 or so. Even leap years are maintained.
