In case somebody is looking for a cheap logic analyzer. http://www.rockylogic.com/ $170, 8 Chan USB logic analyzer, 500ksps. Saw an ad in a magazine, didn't try it yet. Tal, I have one of these things and so far, it's nice. But, having said that, I must tell you that I have only given it quite basic evaluation on simple circuits. Is it worth the money?? If your only looking for 8 bits and limited analyzer memory, the price and performance are great! I would buy one if they would offer variable capture rates and appropriate depths for each rate. The thing should take advantage of the pc. First off it is spec'd at 500Msps (not 500Ksps) but for only 3k depth. Why can't the also offer 50Msps for 50Meg depth and 5Msps for the entire depth of the free space on your hard drive? Dave, I believe the ANT8 is a GREAT entry level logic analyzer for the price and will work fine for my intended purposes at the present. I looked at the Link Systems, but found them a bit expensive for my humble income. This is a hobby for me. Maybe the (future?) ANT16? will have what you are looking for. Yes, RAM is cheap, and they could have as easily added a DIMM socket (or two! Imagine a G of pod-RAM!) to which you add RAM at your leisure. But this'd add, rough guess, $20-$40, for development and parts. Plus the -power- for the RAM, which they may already be streching. External PS rather than USB powered? Add another $20 for development, parts, and wallwart. Yes, they could offer slower speeds with direct connect, but again, that costs development time. The two purposes of this device are price and speed. Those it has. Prediction: Ant8-TNG will include everything I mentioned, for around $200. For what they're doing now I hope they make a billion bucks so they an afford to develop TNG. The buffer built into the module is very limited. It talks to the host 'however' it does. Anything more, such as more buffer, or different comm techniques, cost bunches more silicon, and that breaks the 'price' objective. As I said there'll probably be more versions that do more things but this one is to get them off the ground and into the market and build a reputation and following.
