Hi,

Is there an adapter that I can convert a 110VAC 3 prong American outlet to
a 120VAC NEMA L5-30P plug? Is this something I would /need/ an electrician
to do, or can I simply get some type of adapter?

Thanks,
Nathan

Probably easier to make your own pigtail adapter. Most well stocked hardware
stores or electrical supply houses will have the L5-30 plug or socket in
stock. Could be costly though, $30. Standard 3 prong molded, round, yellow, US
plugs and sockets are about $3 ea. from Lowes or Home Depot.
See the L5-30:

(you may have to paste the whole above link in one line to view it)

Adaptors are available for almost anything to almost anything else (having
recently travelled around the world and had to use various supplies).

The 100 to 120 part is a bit hard to do with an adaptor :-)

why do I see.....a big flashing sign.....danger....danger....

L5-30 is a 30A device, locking  while most 3 prong plugs are either 15A or
20A.  Thus if you adapte a device that requires more than 20A, its going to
either heat up the cables or pop the breaker (latter hopefully)

Not that many of us haven't done this......

So go get yourself a L5-30R and make an adapter....
