Hi.
Well the subject says it all...

I get "Error while reading file WISP628-2.SCH"
in Eagle version 4.09r2e when trying to open
the file found at the Wisp628 site.

Have anyone else seen this ?

Best Regards
Jan-Erik Söderholm.

Hi.
Well, I'm not *to* surprised :-)

I'v just now downloaded a new copy (I download
on one PC and run Eagle on another, and move the
file(s) with CD-R or a floppy).

I'v tried to open the SCH file from the CD-R, from the
HD and from a floppy.

I'v disabled (if enabled) the "read only" and "archive"
options in the SCH file properties.

I try to open with the File/Open dialog.

I'm using a plain WIN-98 system.

All example files that commes with Eagle opens just OK.
And Eagle have been running fine since I installed it, a couple of months ago.

I think I'v run out of ideas...

Thats what I did - win2000 os.
File size is 174,059 bytes.
I saved it as another name and the size was identical.

Does the "e" in your version mean "evaluation"? There might be some limit
which this circuit exceeds?

I think "e" stands for "English version", there is also
a r2g version on the Eagle homepage, where "g" stands for
the German version. And the "e" and "g" seems to only
be in the filenames of the Eagle kits anyway.

If I check properties on my downladed file,
it says :

Size         : 170 KB (174 460 bytes)
Size on disk : 170 KB (174 592 bytes)

I download from the Wisp628 page under the "Downloads"
header from the URL :
http://www.voti.nl/wisp628/eagle/wisp628-2.sch

And, yes, I'm using the evaluation version of Eagle, *but*, as
the WISP628 page says under the "Links" section :

"CadSoft provide a free version of their circuit and PCB
editor. This EAGLE light is limited in board size and
number of layers, but very usefull for small projects.
The circuit diagram of Wisp628 falls within this limits.
You could use it to create a PCB."

(And some of CadSoft's own eamples are more complex anyway...)

Since your file had a little different size them mine, I'd
like to try with a copy of your file. If you've got the time,
you could just ZIP it and mail it to me directly.

Regards and many thanks !

Jan-Erik Söderholm.

I get
Size: 169 KB (174,059 bytes)
Size on disk: 192KB (196,608 bytes)
Disk size is larger because of the formatting on this drive

So did I

FYI, I got a file directly from George (thanks)
that actualy opened just fine in Eagle.

Well, well...

Could be something with the tool used for the
download (I'm using Netscape 4.74), don't know.

Yes - thats it - download with Netscape 4.08 and the file size is 174,460.
A DOS FC (file comparison) showed "no differences"!
But a binary comparison (FC /B) showed many...
Looked at both files with hex editor - Netscape has added a CR (0d) before
every occurence of LF (0A) in the file!
Must have assumed it is a text file, not binary.

Hate it when IE is better....

Ha !!

Maybe we should ask Wouter van Ooijen to put this
(and maybe all) files in his download area in one
or more ZIP archives.

That way, I'd expect this problems to go away.
(And the files will be much smaller also)

IMHO, it should never EDIT files, Anyhow !

>Hate it when IE is better....

It also downloads viruses much more efficiently, even invisibly in background, and installs them automatically without the user need to worry... Superior software this is.

Mozilla is really mature nowadays, and nothing i´ve seen beats Opera in user interface.
For download i use http://www.getright.com which is really neat and can take over download from all here named browsers, it can resume, connect sheduled time, download throtteled in background, etc.  Have never disappointed me.

Changing "<LF>" <=> "<LF><CR>" is what you *expect*
a tool (FTP, Browser, whatever) to do when
transfering text files in *text* (or ascii or
whatever the tool calls it) mode. But of course
not when using "binary" mode.

The problem with the SCH file, is that it seems as
NS transfers in text mode, not binary.

"Hideing" the file in a ZIP archive is better, IMHO.

Should have thought to look on google - longstanding "problem" apparently IE ignores
the "mimi type" and goes by file extension. Netscape goes by what the wed site tells
it....e.g. (from one of the may google threads found by a search for download+
netscape+ binary)
> - Looking into the files in hexidecimal: There seems be a transfer> from the roiginal hex
0A to hex 0D0A i.e. the carriage return > line feed problem intransfering ASCII files from
UNIX to WIN/DOS.
That is exactly what happens when there are errors. Netscape is converting CR to CRLF. But
Netscape only does this whenever the web server reports that the file is a text file.
> - The download errors do NOT HAPPEN using NS 4.76 under HP-UNIX or > with IE 5.5
and above  - Can anybody help: Compeletely: Step for step? There should be a way > to have
have a BINARY transfer mode for files with unknown extensions !!
Complain to the web hosting service. Tell them that the web server should set content-type =
"application/octet-stream" for unknown file types.

If you have the problem of CR/LF and staff, you can try with  " UNCOOK
95 ". It is a program of the ancient days of MP3, when you downloaded
with netscape and it f*cked up the \newlines.

The other problem can be that you installed a crack/warez for eagle. Bad
idea, there are no cracks for eagle that work.

Yes - that worked on the corrupted file -restored it to the correct size and let
eagle open it.

I'll either use IE *or* wait for Wouter's ZIP
archives :-)

Once again, many thanks George for finding the
error and sending me your file !
