Now, if you had a really long car, and TWO GPS receivers ...

Two of the same GPS receivers 2 meters apart (length of a car) ought to
be enough.

I recall seeing some GPS receivers that had two antenna inputs for this
purpose some time ago.  I don't know whether they switched between
antennas, fully decoded both antennas, or used some sort of phasing
tricks to extract the direction, but it seemed an interesting idea.

With a GPS accuracy of about 10 meters, the length of car would be within
the error range of both receivers.

So for a lumber truck two receivers should work?

Accuracy is "only" about 10mtrs per receiver, it seems guessing might be
more accurate.  ;-)  However, if both receivers error the same amount in
the same direction at the same time, then maybe that would actually
work.

Of course, an articulated vehicle would have its own issues :-)

No problem,
As all engineers do we just add another box for each problem that comes
up. Its easy... So now we have three GPS receivers... ;-)
