I have a 96B scopemeter that is in need of a new battery pack.  Cheapest
I've found (using google) is $68-75 not including shipping.

The battery back is the size of four C cells.  Ni-Cd, 2800 mAh, 4.8 v,
Fluke p/n PM9086/011.  Attached to the + terminal of the pack is a
charging contact.

Any suggestions for cheaper alternatives?

Aaron G.

You can make one up from C cells (or perhaps they are Sub-C). I like
the Panasonic Industrial line of NiCds for this kind of thing.

My Tek THS720 battery is over $100, also 4.8v 2800mAh.

I replaced the individual cells for about $25 total. The 2800 mAh are
considered extra capacity, standard capacity is 2200 mAh, those you can
get in high temp or quick charge versions, all from Sanyo.

BTW, there's probably a polyfuse embedded in there somewhere.

Cheers,

Bob

There is a company that bills itself as a "battery rebuilding service" that
might work for you. You send them the original pack, they remove the
cells, and replace them with new cells of equal or greater capacity.
They offer quotes by email:
      .....infoKILLspamspam.....primecell.com
The web site is:
     http://www.primecell.com
I haven't used them, so I don't know their prices or quality of service,
but this sounds like the ideal way to replace battery packs with
unusual housings - just rebuild within the original package.
