Hmmm, the ground is missing on all drawings on the shuko connector used here in Sweden, Germany, etc most of Northern Europe.  Makes us wonder what else is wrong...

On the pictures with round connector the L and N are th eround pins at left and right, then there are notches both top and bottom with exposed ground metal that strong spring contact fingers in th ewall outlet ground.  (and thus also make it pretty mechanically rigid.)

Interestingly, it shows that Scotland is 220V, 50Hz and uses only the
square-pin UK plug.  The 'UK and Ireland' are apparently 240V, 50Hz and
also use a round-pin plug (old UK 5A type?).  While I'm sure some folk this
side of the border will be delighted to see Scotland listed separately from
the UK, we'll need to watch out for the 20V drop at the border :-)

[For information of those far from Europe, Scotland _is_ part of the UK,
and all of EU is now 230V +/-10%, 50Hz, but several different types of
mains socket.  The old type of unfused round pin plug are still sometimes
used throughout the UK for lighting, but this is getting rarer]

It's still a useful reference but as Morgan says, use with caution...
probably compiled from a pile of information from various sources, and
somewhat out of date.

heh heh, I got this link from the web version of this weeks Electronics
Weekly (yes it comes out a day earlier than the printed one). I guess we
need to do a mass mailing to them to point out that this web site they
recommend has a fair number of major errors :))))))

Yes, the UK plug seems to have some problems...  it seems some horizontal and vertical lines missing.  Makes
it look like there isn't an Earth pin (at the top).

So....sorta off the subject but then again....it is kind of on...

Pin&sleeve connectors for a 3 phase w/ground.  This is a four wire
connector, the ground connection is noted, but is there a standard for the
other three pins? Phase 1 on pin x.  I am thinking not, and other than for
load balancing....

Which brings up another question.  Here is a quote from an email....

"it (a power distribution unit) has an input of 3-Phase WYE 30A / Phase or a
total of 90A @ 120V L-N. When you have 208V outputs you must go L-L (IE X-Y,
Y-Z, Z-X). In this case you see that the same line gets used in two
different sections. So each section then only has 15A (or 45A total @
208VAC)"

Is this really true.....or can each pair of legs provide 30A since they are
all out of phase?  Consider the source more than capable of providing 30A
continious.
