Hey guys and gals,
I'm looking for a part number and a source for a few <10 of a funny sub D
connector.

Outside size and shape is the same as a standard 15 pin D-sub (joystick
cable) but inside it has 5 "standard" size pins and 2 (one on each end)
larger high current pins- picture attached.

Thanks,
-Denny

Hi,

This looks like the FCT-brand connectors which you can find in the
latest Mouser Electronics catalog  (#617) on pages
668-669.  <http://www.mouser.com>.  I think AMP makes connectors like this
too.  I've never used these; they just happened to catch my eye as I
flipped through the catalog.

The connector in the upper left corner of this page is what you're looking for,
I think.

http://www.ittcannon.com/products/products.asp?pid=1003

Available from Newark, but pretty spendy.

Hi Denny

Those connectors are supplied in SA by Hiconnex. Called a 'mixed layout'
connector. So for a run-around, see http://www.hiconnex.co.za, and you should find
a link to the manuf and local source.

(power pins are about 4mm?)

These are a standard D connector. The large pins can be either high current
pins or coax connectors. In the UK available through RS Components, but any
Cannon wholesaler should be able to source them for you. I imagine Digikey
will have them.

Amphenol makes a connector just like this one. Even the pin designations (A1
and A2 for the large pins) are the same. The "plug" connector is Amphenol
type 717TWA7W2P which is Newark part number 52F7228. The receptacle
is Amphenol 77TWA7W2S, Newark number 52F7237. See page 1158 of
catalog 120. (Approx $9 each).
