Esteemed list,

I'm building a project that deals with regulation of the position of some moving parts with an actuator.  Unwanted oscillation is the issue.  I think my problems are caused by conflicting time constants in seperate areas of the overall control scheme resulting in positive feedback.  I think these are called poles in control scheme lingo.  Anyhow, I'm curious if anyone is familiar with some good overview texts, tutorials, app notes or the like on the topic?
Sorry for the vagueness folks.  I'm not allowed to talk about the project in very much detail.
