It has been a while since I have sent this to the PIC list so for all the
newcomers
(during the last year or so):
PICBots is a robotic simulation. It allows you to write a control program
for a robot using any PIC compiler (or assembler) and then pit these robots
against each other (or against you) in the simulation. It is an excellent
educational tool for both embedded programming using the PIC chip as well
as principles of robotics.
Rather than go the "easy" way, PICBots was designed so that the
information you got was realistic (and limited). This forces you to deal
with the same problems that you would have with a "real" robot. The hope
is that at a later point in time, someone (perhaps us) will actually create
robots that use these same controls and these programs can be played out in
a physical arena!!
In PICBots each bot has a PIC16C74 processor which you can write programs
for.

Otherwise, PicBots looks interesting though I'll have to get it
working and play around with it to see how smart a robot can
be programmed.

I don't think PICBots requires a sound card, but to be honest I have never
tried it on a machine that doesn't have one. Please let me know if this
seems to be the case.

Thanks.
If there is sufficient interest, I would be willing to host another contest
to see who can write the best BOT.
(If you don't know what we are talking about, go to http://www.innovatus.com
and download the PicBots stuff.)
