Hi Gang,

It has been many years since I posted anything on the piclist, so I hope you
have all been behaving yourselves. :-)

Decided to pop in, drop this new product on the list, monitor for a day or two
to see if anyone has direct questions, then vanish back to noddysville again.

It is so unique and tailored to micros that I feel it must be of more than a
passing interest to members.

Don,

This thing looks pretty cool, but might be a bit pricey for the DIY'er
or hobbyist.   But I have a project that could use one of these.  I'll
see if I can justify the cost.  If so, I'll order one.
What about samples?   Is there a price break for single unit samples?

Please advise.

                                             Thanks and Regards,

                                                    Jim

Hi Jim,

>Is there a price break for single unit samples?

Unfortunately no, we have price breaks for 5, 10, 100, etc. in the usual fashion.

We did send out some initial demo units for free to gain feed back, however as
they only went out recently, we are still waiting on results.

Also have a look at:
http://www.dontronics.com/4d_osd.html
an OSD unit.

Atilla the designer, is very keen to develop many new micro to Video projects.

Hi John, no very different.

That allows 2 VGA monitors on one PC via USB2, without the extra graphics card.
Windows controlled in the usual fashion.

Don,

Thanks for the response.   I wish I would have know there were some
free units in exchange for feedback.   I would have jumped on one.
If you have or find any more free ones, let me know.   I'd be happy
to provide feedback in exchange.

                                          Thanks and Regards,

Just curious, what IC does it use?

This is pretty neat, but a bit pricey.

Is there a composite video version available?  I've been experimenting with
PIC tetris etc from the web to learn more about video signals, but it seems
like I'll need to do this with an AVR or other micro to get decent resolution
& color.  If I find a module like this one though, it might be worth the time
saving.

Cheers,
-Neil.

Most things are pricey when first released :-)

you will find the text listed below on that page:
http://www.dontronics.com/micro-vga.html

================================================
Yes you are correct with your assumptions for the VGA and SVGA rates. All of the
microVGA cores upto and including the 640x480 run at
31.5khz horizontal and 60hz vertical and the 800x600 runs at 37.88khz and 60hz.

We already have a design in place for the composite video version of the
microVGA and hope to be releasing this soon. The ideal candidate will
be the 256x200 and the 320x240 cores and we'll have versions for both PAL and
NTSC formats. Release date should be around early June this
year.
