The label on the back tells you what version. R5 or later can have
the PUM upgrade

according to microchip (http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en010069&part=UK003010) if you wan't the extra device support you should try buying a PUM even if you have an earlier revision and if you experiance problems they will replace the picstart plus.

It's an R14. I guess I should have kept it! j/k .. I have a Wisp628 and
a USBProg (haven't had a chance to use it yet though).
