'[AD]: Compact Flash Combined Order'

Hi Everyone

I'm just about to order some compact flash cards (64Mbit) for a project in
Australia and I was wondering if anyone would like me to add some to the
order for them.

I will pass them on for their cost + postage and handling + GST in
Australia. I'm also getting a USB reader/writer that will do Compact Flash
and SmartMedia.

These are from SagaTek http://www.sagatek.com.tw via an Australian Distributor.

Current approximate prices

FCF-64M AU$120  64Mbit CF
DRW-CSU AU$55           CF and SM USB reader/writer
DCS-CF  AU$45           CF only USB reader/writer

If your interested in other sizes I can get a price on them for you.

I won't know the final prices until I can confirm numbers, but these are for
a small number that I intend to get, so the more I order the cheaper they
get. I will confirm the prices as soon as I know the numbers. I would need
to receive payment (paypal/money order/bank cheque) before I actually place
the order.

If anyone is interested please contact me off list.

I intend to be ordering end of next week (9th Nov) at the latest. There
would be a 2 week lead time until I get them and then I would put in
airmail/express post by the next working day.

Cheers,
Ash.

Just an update,

for some dumb reason I was thinking 64 MBit as the size, the are of course
64MB..

James Downes also pointed me at http://www.meritline.com which has these at US$34
(about AU$70) + shipping. I've run up the supplier and they will give me
them at AU$80 at present, but the more I order the better price I can get :)
Once I place the order and they know the quantity they can try to better the
price by going to the manufacturer.

So If anyone is interested let me know..

Ash.

www.pricewatch.com is a good place to check out prices for media.
$23 for 64MB, $41 for 128MB.  [US].

Not that I'm trying to dissuade you, but since you haven't mentioned a
desire for a particular brand, and appear to be looking for a low price,
I thought I'd throw that in.

I'm still planning on making a compactflash to 40 pin IDE + power board
for some time to replace the boot floppies on various network machines.

Does anyone know of cheap compactflash connectors I could use?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for that.. More ammo for the price negotiations.. Any brand is fine.

I'm getting a sample of a nice connector from
http://www.ddkconnectors.com/mcdce.htm It is the MCD-CEL750PB-53ANNA which
has an eject button. My current quote is AU$5.95 (US$3?), MOQ 100.

You may be able to get a free sample from them.. My distributor gets samples
here for free.

Ash.

DigiKey sells the raw connectors. I've also bought CF-to-IDE adapters from
http://www.peeweelinux.com for CDN $20 (about USD $14).

Excellent!  I doubt I could make one less expensive.  I should've asked
here sooner.

If I buy a few of those, and a few 8MB compactflash cards, I should be
able to get the total cost down to $35 to replace each floppy drive -
which would be more than worth it to save us from so many problems.
About $25 more expensive per unit than a standard floppy.

I would not bother, personally.  I just bought one of the adaptors from
flashmemory.com.au - URL for the product is:
www.flashmemory.com.au/shop/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=3&cat=FlashMemory+Disk+Drives
[which will no doubt be mangled by the line folding in mail programs..]
The adaptor is $17US.  Works just fine - no soldering or PCB fab or any
stuffing about :-)
