Greetings to all yee PICers,

I'm after a "cheap" PICstart Plus programmer either brand-new or 2nd hand.

Anyone got one for sale ? or know where to get them from cheap ?

   Alternatively...
any decent (again CHEAP) alternative PIC programmers recommended ?

Thanks in advance,
Darren

You want cheap?
here are some in kit form, or you can build your own from the schematics
for a few dollars.

PICmicro Programmer Kits: 4 Types Available.

DT001 SimmStick Programmer Kit.
As well as being a full PICmicro development platform, this programmer
has a 4PDT switch which allows you to program a PIC16C/F84 in a
SimmStick and run the program straight away. Yes, a load and go
operation. This means you don't have to move the PIC16F84 chip from the
programmer to a target board as they are one and the same. LOAD/RUN.
Straight away!! Hey, we can even do it now with the new all flash
PIC16F877 40 pin chips. And you don't need a SimmStick, as you are able
to use this principle with your own target board.

Port of a PC.

DIY KIT-96 Serial PIC Programmer.

P16PRO Software Registration for the above three kits. (PIC16F84
software is free)

DIY KIT-117 KIT.  PICALL Serial PIC Programmer.
This 8, 18, 28 & 40 pin PICmicro programmer Kit runs off the Parallel
Printer Port of a PC,  programs the PIC16C54, PIC16C55, PIC16C56,
PIC16C57, and the PIC16C58, as well as all other PICmicro chips in the
PIC16PRO range. It includes a programmed chip, and no software
registration is required. As well as the vast range of PICmicro devices,
the PICALL hardware kit can also program ATMEL AVR micros AT90S12000,
AT90S2313, AT90S4414 and AT90S8515's.

I use a simple programmer which is sold from a variety of sources, the
cheapest of which is Marlin P. Jones for the kit version (US $16.20):

       http://www.mpja.com/

I couldn't find it on the website, but it's in the printed catalog.

The same board is also available from

       http://www.electonics123.com/

for a little more money ($19.95 kit, $24.95 assembled).

I personally have just purchased the PicPro-1 from Ramsey Electronics.  It only
programs the 16F8x and 16C8x series PIC's though.  It runs about $60.00

With the arrival of the 18Cxxx parts you may want to ask around for a
programmer
that supports these parts. The 18Cxxx can be programmed serially but it is
completely different in programming algorithm to the 16Cxxx parts and the
code
for all existing programmers will need to be reworked somewhat.

The picstart plus already supports these parts and is a good option.

My own WARP-13 will support these parts shortly. I have the code working now
but I am sure that I need to upgrade the warp-13 to 20Mhz to do these
parts justice. Don't buy a 4Mhz firmware based programmer if you want
realistic
support for these parts. Ensure the programmer supplier is commited to
upgrading.

The standard P16Pro software sold by DonTronics and Amazon. You can check
out the circuit and download a freeware or shareware version of the
software at:
